Thoughtful care for aging cats
Caring for a Senior Cat Requires Extra Attention
As cats get older, their needs begin to change in subtle ways. They may move more slowly, eat differently, or become more sensitive to changes in their environment.
Even small shifts in routine can cause stress, which is why staying in a familiar home environment becomes even more important for senior cats.
Megan’s Pet Sitting provides calm, consistent in-home care that respects your cat’s comfort level while keeping a close eye on their daily habits and overall well-being.
Understanding aging cats
Common Changes in Senior Cats
Reduced Mobility
Older cats may move more slowly, avoid jumping, or need extra time to get around comfortably.
Changes in Appetite
Eating habits can shift, making consistency and observation especially important.
Litter Box Changes
Changes in frequency or behavior can signal discomfort or underlying health issues.
Sensitivity to Stress
Senior cats are often more sensitive to environmental changes and unfamiliar routines.
More Rest & Quiet Time
Older cats tend to sleep more and benefit from calm, low-energy interactions.
Subtle Behavior Changes
Small shifts in behavior can indicate changes in comfort, mood, or health.
Gentle, respectful care
A Calm Approach for Cats Who Need Extra Patience
Senior cats often need care that feels slower, softer, and more predictable. I adjust each visit to your cat’s energy level, mobility, and comfort instead of expecting them to adapt to me.
Whether your cat wants gentle attention, quiet companionship, or simply a peaceful presence nearby, the goal is to help them feel safe and supported.
- Slow, quiet movements
- Respect for boundaries and resting spaces
- Low-stress interaction
- Care adjusted to energy and mobility
Attentive daily observation
Careful Monitoring for Subtle Changes
Senior cats can be very good at hiding discomfort, so small changes matter. During visits, I pay close attention to your cat’s normal patterns and let you know if anything seems different.
This extra awareness can be especially helpful for older cats who have chronic conditions, changing appetites, mobility concerns, or litter box changes.
Monitoring May Include:
- Appetite and water intake
- Litter box habits
- Energy level and mobility
- Hiding, vocalizing, or behavior changes
- Medication response, when applicable
- Anything that seems unusual for your cat
Medication support when needed
Experienced with Senior Cat Medication Routines
Many senior cats need medication or extra support as they age. I follow your instructions carefully and keep visits calm, consistent, and as low-stress as possible.
Comfort, routine & stability
Why In-Home Care Matters for Senior Cats
Familiar Surroundings
Older cats often feel safest in the home they know, with their usual resting spots, scents, and routines.
Less Stress
In-home visits avoid the disruption of travel, boarding, unfamiliar animals, and new environments.
Consistent Routine
Meals, medication, litter care, and companionship stay as close as possible to your cat’s normal rhythm.
Comfortable Rest
Senior cats can rest where they feel secure without being overstimulated or forced into unfamiliar spaces.
What visits look like
Calm, Gentle Visits Based on Your Cat’s Needs
Senior cat care visits are never rushed or overly stimulating. Each visit is guided by your cat’s comfort, energy level, and normal routine.
Some senior cats enjoy gentle attention, while others prefer quiet companionship from a respectful distance. The goal is always to help your cat feel secure, cared for, and undisturbed in their familiar space.
- Feeding and fresh water
- Litter box care
- Medication support, if needed
- Gentle interaction or quiet companionship
- Monitoring comfort, appetite, and behavior
Clear communication
Detailed Updates After Every Visit
When you have a senior cat, small details matter. After each visit, you’ll receive a thoughtful update so you know how your cat is doing while you’re away.
Updates may include notes about eating, litter box use, energy level, comfort, medication, mood, and anything that seems different from your cat’s normal routine.
- Photos from each visit
- Notes on appetite and water intake
- Litter box and behavior observations
- Medication updates, when applicable
Reliable care you can feel good about
Supportive Care for Cats Who Deserve Extra Gentleness
Leaving an older cat can feel stressful, especially when they have routines, preferences, or health needs that matter. My goal is to provide steady, respectful care that helps your cat feel safe while giving you peace of mind.
Each visit is handled with patience, consistency, and attention to detail, so your senior cat receives care that honors their comfort and their normal routine.

I have had cats and dogs my whole life and never had anyone as thoughtful and caring..above and beyond. She set a whole new standard from the moment we met her and our cat immediately loved her. (Our pets usually have the best judgment on the people they choose). I highly recommend Megan, and sincerely feel really lucky to finally have found someone I trust.Posted on Google Evan WhiteTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Megan has cared for our 2 cats on numerous occasions recently and we are grateful to have found a pet sitter as great as her. She provides photos and videos daily to update us on how they are doing and gives them lots of love and attention in our absence. Typically, our cats are skidish and reluctant to warm to strangers but took to Megan immediately. It has been an immense relief knowing our cats are well cared for when we travel now!Posted on Google Hannah FritchmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. When our kitty Pasha got a new scary epilepsy diagnosis we were afraid to leave him for any length of time. Megan took fantastic care of Pasha during our vacation! She made sure he took his twice daily medication, and her updates allowed us to have fun and know he was in the best of hands. She was also flexible when our flight got delayed. Thank you so much! ❤️Posted on Google A. B.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I apologize for writing a little novel, but I very highly recommend Megan’s Pet Sitting and I want to make clear why. This was our first time hiring a sitter for our cat and we could not be happier with how Megan looked after her this past week. First, Megan is very organized. She responded to emails promptly and helped us to work out a functional schedule for her visits. She then set up a “first meeting” so that she could meet our cat and learn more about our her routine. During that preliminary meeting, Megan made careful notes about our cat's feedings, favorite toys, litter boxes, and personality quirks, etc., and afterward she drew her notes up into a “care plan” that documented what she expected to do, when, and how. As a result, you’ll feel sure before you even leave that Megan has a solid grasp on the necessary details. Second, Megan is trustworthy and reliable. She showed up when she said she would and she stayed the amount of time that we agreed upon. Each time she stopped by, she’d “clock in” with video/pictures of our cat, as well as a brief comment on how the cat was doing. This meant that we could see her doing what she had agreed to do. Furthermore, because Megan is so communicative, you can easily ask her to do something small if it occurs to you in the middle of the week—like, say, checking the second litter box that you forgot to mention because the cat uses it maybe once a month. You can be sure that she’ll be timely, consistent, and responsive. Third, Megan is great with animals. One of the benefits of her “video updates” each day—besides seeing our cat happy and healthy—was that we could see how gentle, considerate, and kind Megan was with her. Our cat isn’t shy exactly, but she doesn’t meet new people very often and I was afraid that she wouldn’t give Megan much of a chance. Megan, however, was able to reassure her very quickly and within a day our cat was flopping on her side for pets. Megan is also good at coming up with entertainment; she got creative with combining toys to keep our cat stimulated for her hour of person-time each day. I’m sure that if anyone can befriend your pet on short notice, it’s her. In short: I can’t recommend Megan highly enough as a pet sitter. She’s organized, reliable, and great at winning a pet’s affection. We definitely plan to hire her again. Thank you for all of your help, Megan! I was very pleased with the care that my cat received from Megan. My cat tends to be shy but curious and when Megan sent me photos of my kitty sitting on her lap, I knew she had a special touch. She asked me about my cat's preferences and routine and paid attention to the details. She put in a little extra time with her and sent photos of them playing, cuddling, and getting sips from the faucet. I felt completely comfortable having Megan take care of her twice now and intend to reach out to her in the future. Thank you, Megan!Posted on Google Megan McClintockTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Couldn’t be more pleased by how well my cats were taken care of while I was away during the holidays. Megan is so detail oriented and thorough; from the moment she met the cats to the daily updates she provided, I felt at peace when I was away!Posted on Google Sarah BodinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Megan has been so thorough in planning to care for my cats, excellent communication, and updates during the job. I have appreciated the updates and reliability so much! I’ll be using her service again! Thanks Megan!Posted on Google MelissaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Megan is the best. I am a veterinarian and particular about how my kiddos are treated, and I have total confidence in her care. She's responsible, sends great photo updates, and my cats adore her. Zero worries when she's on duty!Posted on Google Dylan TaylorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am so thankful that we were lucky enough to have Megan take care of our cat while we were away. She paid so much attention to detail and our cat fell in love with her pretty much the first time they met. I felt all the more comfortable with leaving our cat when receiving updates and pictures from Megan during each visit. I’d used pet boarding services for several pets in the past, but after experiencing the service that Megan provides, they won’t be seeing much more of our little girl anymore. We will definitely be working with Megan in the future! Could not recommend her enough.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
